Description

Are you looking for a fun and easy recipe to make with your kids? Try making rice krispie hamburgers! These adorable treats look just like miniature hamburgers, but they're made with sweet and crunchy rice krispie treats instead of meat and bread.

Prep Time

The prep time for this recipe is about 30 minutes.

Cook Time

There is no cooking required for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups rice krispies cereal
  • 1 package (10 oz) marshmallows
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • Green food coloring
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup yellow frosting
  • 1/4 cup red frosting

Equipment

  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Round cookie cutter (3-4 inch diameter)
  • Parchment paper
  • Pastry bag with small round tip

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a large microwave-safe bowl. Add the marshmallows and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the marshmallows are melted and smooth.
  2. Add a few drops of green food coloring to the marshmallow mixture and stir until the color is evenly distributed.
  3. Add the rice krispies cereal to the bowl and stir until the cereal is coated in the marshmallow mixture.
  4. Line a 9x13 inch baking dish with parchment paper. Transfer the rice krispie mixture to the dish and press it down evenly.
  5. Let the rice krispie mixture cool for about 10 minutes, then use a round cookie cutter to cut out circles from the mixture.
  6. Melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  7. Dip one side of each rice krispie circle into the melted white chocolate and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Let the chocolate harden.
  8. Use a pastry bag with a small round tip to pipe yellow frosting onto the bottom half of each rice krispie circle, to resemble mustard.
  9. Use the same pastry bag to pipe red frosting onto the top half of each rice krispie circle, to resemble ketchup.
  10. Place the top half of each rice krispie circle onto the bottom half, with the frosting in between, to create hamburger shapes.

Notes

  • You can also use green frosting instead of food coloring to color the marshmallow mixture.
  • If you don't have a round cookie cutter, you can use a drinking glass with a round edge instead.
  • If you don't have a pastry bag, you can use a plastic sandwich bag with a small hole cut in one corner.

Recipe Tips

  • Make sure to press the rice krispie mixture down firmly in the baking dish to create a solid base for the hamburgers.
  • If the rice krispie mixture is too sticky to work with, wet your hands with water or coat them with cooking spray before handling the mixture.
  • If you want to make the hamburgers look even more realistic, you can add a small piece of green fruit leather to each one to resemble lettuce.
  • These rice krispie hamburgers are a great dessert for a summer barbecue or picnic!
