- 1 cup of rice
- 2 cups of water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp urad dal
- 1 tbsp chana dal
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 8-10 curry leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste

Method
- Wash the rice and soak it in water for 15 minutes.
- Drain the water and keep the rice aside.
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal.
- When the mustard seeds start to splutter and the dals turn golden brown, add chopped onions, green chilies, and curry leaves.
- Saute for a few minutes until the onions turn translucent.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and ginger and saute for a few minutes.
- Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste.
- Bring the water to a boil and then add the soaked rice.
- Close the pressure cooker lid and cook for 2 whistles.
- Let the pressure release naturally and then open the lid.
- Fluff up the rice with a fork and serve hot.
Notes
- You can add vegetables of your choice like carrot, peas, capsicum, etc.
- If you do not have a pressure cooker, you can cook the rice in a pot with a lid.
- Be careful while adding water as the amount may vary depending on the quality of rice.
- You can also add grated coconut for a more authentic taste.
