Description

Rice noodle sheets, also known as rice paper, are a popular ingredient in many Asian dishes. They are thin, translucent, and flexible sheets made from rice flour and water. These sheets are often used to wrap spring rolls, make fresh rolls, or serve as a layer in dishes such as Vietnamese pho.

Prep Time

Preparation time for this recipe is approximately 30 minutes.

Cook Time

Cook time for this recipe is approximately 10-15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of rice flour
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

Equipment

  • Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Non-stick pan
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the rice flour, water, salt, and vegetable oil until it forms a smooth batter.
  2. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat.
  3. Place a piece of parchment paper on a flat surface and brush it with a thin layer of vegetable oil.
  4. Pour a ladleful of the batter onto the pan and immediately swirl the pan to spread the batter into a thin, even layer.
  5. Cook the noodle sheet for 1-2 minutes or until the edges start to curl up.
  6. Use a spatula to loosen the edges of the sheet from the pan, then flip it over and cook for another 30 seconds.
  7. Slide the noodle sheet onto the parchment paper and repeat steps 4-6 until all the batter is used up.
  8. Stack the noodle sheets on top of each other and let them cool completely before using.

Notes

  • For best results, use a non-stick pan and brush it with a thin layer of oil between each noodle sheet.
  • If the batter is too thick, add a little bit more water until it reaches a smooth, pourable consistency.
  • Store the noodle sheets in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
