Method

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter, and line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  3. Add the marshmallows to the saucepan and stir until they are completely melted and smooth.
  4. Divide the melted marshmallows into three equal parts in separate bowls.
  5. Add red food coloring to one bowl of melted marshmallows, and stir until the color is even.
  6. Add blue food coloring to another bowl of melted marshmallows, and stir until the color is even.
  7. Add Rice Krispies cereal to each bowl of melted marshmallows, and stir until the cereal is completely coated.
  8. Press the red Rice Krispies mixture into the prepared baking dish, using a spatula to smooth it out.
  9. Repeat with the white Rice Krispies mixture, pressing it on top of the red layer.
  10. Lastly, press the blue Rice Krispies mixture on top of the white layer, using a spatula to smooth it out.
  11. Allow the mixture to cool and set for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

If you prefer, you can use natural food coloring instead of the artificial food coloring. You can also add sprinkles or other decorations to the top of the Rice Krispies treats for an extra festive touch.
