Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basmati Rice
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/2 tsp Saffron strands
  • 2 Green Cardamom pods
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1-inch Cinnamon stick
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • Salt to taste

  • A large pot with a lid
  • A small bowl
  • A fork

Method

  1. Wash the Basmati rice in cold water and soak it for 30 minutes.
  2. Warm the water in a small bowl and add the saffron strands to it. Allow it to steep for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat the ghee in a pot over medium heat. Add the whole spices (cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and bay leaf) and sauté until fragrant.
  4. Add the soaked rice to the pot and sauté for a minute or two until the rice turns opaque.
  5. Add the saffron water and salt to the pot and stir well.
  6. Add 2 cups of water to the pot and bring it to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and simmer until the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed. This should take about 15-20 minutes.
  8. Once the rice is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  9. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.

Notes

  • Make sure to use good quality Basmati rice for best results.
  • If you don’t have whole spices, you can use ground spices instead.
  • You can also add some fried onions or raisins to the rice to give it a different flavor and texture.
