Ingredients

  • 2-3 green chillies, chopped
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • A few curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

Equipment

For this recipe, you will need:
  • A pressure cooker
  • A mixing bowl
  • A pan

Method

  1. Wash the rice and cook it in a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water until it is soft and mushy.
  2. Mash the rice with a spoon or a potato masher and set it aside to cool.
  3. In a pan, heat the oil and add the mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, and cumin seeds.
  4. Once the seeds start to splutter, add the green chillies, asafoetida, and curry leaves.
  5. Saute for a few seconds and then add the curd and salt.
  6. Mix well and then add the mashed rice to the pan.
  7. Stir well until everything is combined and then turn off the heat.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Make sure the rice is cooked well and is mushy before mashing it.
  • Do not add too much curd as it can make the dish too sour.
  • You can add grated carrots, cucumber, or pomegranate seeds to the dish for extra flavor and texture.
